Summer is for road trips. To a resort, to visit family, or just somewhere relaxing to soak up the sunshine. That means packing, loading up the car, and getting your beach outfits ready. But for the pet owners among us, it means figuring out what to do with your beloved fur baby.
Sure, you can board your pet while you’re away. But finding a friend to dog-or-cat-sit can be difficult, and kennels can be prohibitively expensive. Plus – doesn’t Fido deserve to take part in the family vacation, too?
The biggest challenge when bringing your pet on vacation with you is keeping them calm in the car. My childhood Golden Retriever, Max, used to cry, pant, and whine the whole drive, even if we were just going to the grocery store ten minutes away; much less on a five-hour road trip!
The whole point of a vacation is to relax. So how do you make sure your pets are relaxed, too?
CBD Products for Pets
You already know that many people sing CBD‘s praises for its calming and relaxing properties. CBD users report that it helps with anxiety and unease. But it’s not just for people; your pets have an endocannabinoid system just like you do.
That means CBD products for your pets can help them enjoy the same benefits reported by people who use CBD – like relaxation, relief of anxiety, increased appetite (not that Rover needs it!) and a restorative sense of calm.
CBD products for dogs and cats work in the same way as in your body. The ingredients are more or less the same. The effects are the same. The biggest difference? We don’t carry salmon-flavored oils for humans (yet). But since all of our CBD pet products are lab-tested (the science kind of lab, not the retriever kind) to ensure they adhere to our sky-high standards, they’re just as safe for you as they are for your loving pet.
The endocannabinoid system is the system in your body in which cannabinoids like CBD are produced and digested. It’s closely linked to the regulation of homeostasis in your body – that means its job is to help restore your body to a state of normalcy. The abnormality it’s restoring from might be an inflamed muscle, or it might be the triggering of your fight-or-flight response due to anxiety. Either way, the endocannabinoid system works hard to get you back to normal. CBD products just help it work a little harder. Because dogs and cats (and bunnies… and mice… and goats) have the same endocannabinoid system that we do, they can enjoy the same effects reported by human users of CBD.
Is CBD safe for animals?
Short answer: Yes.
Long answer: Since CBD works the same way for animals as it does for humans, scientists are confident that there is no risk for pets of any kind when taking CBD products. According to Dr. Tim Shu, founder and CEO of VETCBD, as reported on PetMD, “It doesn’t damage the kidney, liver, or GI tract. The dogs aren’t high or sedated.” We’re not aware of any potential negative consequences for pets consuming CBD. All of that said, make sure to consult with your vet before giving your pet anything new, CBD or otherwise.
Which CBD product is right for my pet?
From regular CBD oils to peanut-butter-banana dog treats, shopCBD has a myriad of options for your pet. In terms of the product strength, as with humans, it’s recommended to start low. From there, you can gradually increase the amount of active CBD until the desired effect is achieved.
When choosing between treats, oils, or tinctures, only you know best what your pet will or won’t be interested in. If they’re picky about treats, consider adding an oil or tincture to their food or water. If they’re a peanut butter fiend, try Pet Releaf Dog Treats.
All of our CBD products for pets are extensively tested for contaminants, heavy metals, solvents, and anything else that could be dangerous for both humans and pets. If it doesn’t pass our rigorous testing, we don’t sell it—period. While all of our product partners do their own lab testing, usually with a third party lab, we test everything a second time just to be sure.
A peaceful ride for the whole family, including your pets
CBD can help your pets enjoy a stress-free, relaxing ride, no matter where you’re going. And a calm pet means a happy owner. So go ahead and book that vacation—nothing’s holding you back this summer.
